Sewing, Literacy and Counseling

Sewing, Literacy, and Counseling

Through Equip the Nations indigenous missionaries, we want to empower abused and poverty-stricken women to live freely to the Lord by adding ten more slum sewing, literacy, and biblical counseling centers.

Our centers provide the atmosphere for women to truthfully talk with other women about their daily needs and struggles. The honesty allows our workers to use the Bible to answer their discussion questions. And often times, this opens the door for us to teach literacy and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We understand that it takes time for abused and poverty-stricken women to learn that their new identity can be found in Christ. And that Christ will never leave or forsake them.

Through the sewing, literacy, & Counseling centers each abused poverty-stricken woman has the opportunity to believe that she is of great worth to Jesus. And that He can take her from a place of rejection, anxiety, and begging to a place of acceptance, hope, and financial security.

We emphasize that Jesus paved the road to grace and forgiveness with His blood to empower all to walk the narrow road.

This key lesson is hard for an abused woman living in the slum to grasp. But with prayer and counseling, all things are possible.

After the training, the women can produce clothes to be sold to their neighbors, in their nearby markets, and distributed through local merchants.

Our goal is to set up ten NEW sewing literacy and counseling centers in the slums.

Used Bible Literacy Program Stan & June Hinman Post 261

Used Bible Literacy Program  Stan & June Hinman The vision is to collect used Bibles, ship them to India, and allow India Bible Literature (IBL) to place a scripture in every home in India. Sewing, Literacy, and Counseling Centers
Stan and June Hinman

Around 1995 two families (the Bitners and the Hinmans) from Concordia, Kansas, joined together in training at the Youth With A Mission base in Northwest Arkansas. We received training in foreign missions for a year and actually participated in Christian Outreaches in various parts of the world, primarily in Eastern Europe and then in India.

Equip The Nations, Inc., was formed in Arkansas as a tax-exempt religious corporation on January 29, 2002, and applied for and received an IRS tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3). The purpose of Equip The Nations is to give pastoral support and financial support to our indigenous team and for support of the Christian ministries that we work within India. All of our ministry projects are now operated by indigenous pastors in India that we worked with and helped train.

Sewing, Literacy, and Counseling Centers of India is a ministry of Equip The Nations. See Special Projects and Videos on the Home Page for more information concerning ETN.

We invite you, your church, and or your youth group to join with us in empowering abused poverty-stricken women of India.

We want to empower more women through our “Sewing, Literacy, and Counseling Centers” by planting ten more centers throughout India. These centers seek out poor, illiterate women who are often times divorced and abused.

According to a National Family and Health Survey in 2005, total lifetime prevalence of domestic violence was 33.5% and 8.5% for sexual violence among women aged 15–49. Sad!

Empowering women in our centers, particularly through female education, vocational training, employment and knowing who they are in Christ, will increase their status in their community and increase their control over resources. We believe this will provide a protective hedge around them.

Please pray about being part of our Sewing, Literacy, and Counseling Centers.

Below is our budget.

  • $200 a month for the center
  • $130 for each sewing machine
  • $150 for each embroidery machine
  • $175 for each overlock machine
  • $100 a month for electricity
  • $2,000 for the many sewing materials, food, and Bibles.
  • $75 a month for tailoring teacher
  • $50 a month for literacy teacher

Please consider buying a sewing machine or supporting this ministry monthly.
